A single sperm is injected directly into the mare’s egg in the lab, creating an embryo that can be transferred into a recipient mare.
Eggs are collected from the mare and combined with stallion semen in the lab. Once embryos develop, they’re transferred into a recipient mare to carry the pregnancy.
(so what is the little c in front of IVF? Technically, any embryo formed outside the mare is Invitro - produced in the lab - as opposed to Invivo - inside the mare. So, ICSI embroys are IVF embryos and c will identify conventional IVF embryos.)
